Theresa Lambert:Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of dissecting success. Teresa Lambert here with black Kaplan Venables to one and only. We're having so much fun lately, actually always on this podcast, and in life. But one of the things that has really also come out of this last two years that blend I have spent and deepening our relationship together while dissecting success with you is the fact that Holy shit. Entrepreneurship sure is a wild freaking write on a roller coaster. That's very fun. And sometimes it really sucks. And it's so freaking important that you're surrounded with people who get it. Sleep if you don't, although people just don't quite get it. So if you're an entrepreneur give us like a hell yes. But seriously, like entrepreneurship, you know, it's it's this glamorized painting, right? Like, we see one side on the socials and like, everybody, like celebrating the accomplishments, you know, peacocking this stuff as they should. But there's also the days where it's hard. There's also the days where shit happens in our lives, shit happens in our businesses, things don't go the way we want to all the time, because you never actually know. And the less you try and make it want to look a certain way to better for you. But honestly, like entrepreneurship, it's it's not a linear path. It's not linear growth. Even when you're growing even when you're in a scaling stage in your business. There's still a roller coaster, and there's something vidi exciting about it. Because you know, when you'll like maybe you've recently done it, maybe you did it when you were a kid, but there is that like feeling that you get when you're about to get physically onto a roller coaster. So for a minute, I just want you to drop into this experience, however old you are, whatever, wherever you were in the world, and you're on this like fairground, there's all the buzz you can smell the cotton candy. There's excitement in the air. And here you are about to get on to the roller coaster and you can just like feel the body buzz happening like as you even approach it. Should I sit in the front seat? Should I go in the back so many things going through our minds as we're trying to make these decisions? And maybe you're like Hell yeah, I'm sitting in the front and you sit down and the second you sit down you're like shit, did I actually just in the front row in this rollercoaster, like did I actually just choose to sit here like, I don't even know why I sat down in the front seat, but hey, you did. And here we go, roller coaster goes up and you get all excited and you're like, oh my god, it's happening. And then you get to the job, and you realize you're about to go open. And then it just goes right down and flips and around. And before you know it, the thing stops, and you've screamed your frickin face off. And you get out, and you're kind of shaky. But you're also like, holy shit. Like, that was pretty fun.
Blair Kaplan-Venables:adrenaline junkies. You know, it's so interesting that you like, as you were saying that I had this vision of being a kid back in Winnipeg, and they had this thing called the Red River exhibition. And it was like a carnival, and they have all these rides, and I loved going on the roller coasters. I loved it. And there was such a rush and a thrill. And literally, that's the Russian thrill I get when I have an idea, and I make it happen, and it comes to life, or land a new client like it is the same rush. But also my stomach drops when maybe things don't go, as well as I thought they would with a client or I, you know, a client doesn't pay or I have a challenge that I can't solve immediately. You know, it is a roller coaster. And, you know, as a kid, I never went on a roller coaster alone, I always had a partner, maybe with a parent or a friend, but I would never go on the ride alone, because I wanted someone to be there along for the ride with me. And businesses like that. And I think one of the reasons that you and I are both successful is because we've formed partnerships. And throughout my business, I've had various partnerships in different capacities. And it's taken my business to this whole new level. Because we're not meant to do it alone. We're not meant to do it alone, I started my business. When I started my business, it was a PR company, it still is social media marketing wasn't a thing I didn't have a mentor to go to, I didn't have a partner to have, like I did, I went at it on my own. But now you don't have to. You don't have to go at it anything on your own. And people are understanding the power of partnership. Like Teresa, what I love about partnering with Teresa, is like for velocity for this podcast for momentum. You know, we're here to support each other. And now even with Instagram, there's a new collaboration feature where we can actually tag team and make one post for both of us to promote what we're doing. It's the best. I mean, like you can check out our one of our reels we are Second Reel we ever did. Together, we we got together made a reel, but collaboration and partnership is so important, because you can only do so much on your own. Yeah,
Theresa Lambert:100%. And also, to your point of the roller coaster is true. I wasn't even thinking about it when I was telling the story. But I would be on roller coasters with people. There was always other people, like those always other people, either one or many. Sitting next to me, in the front row. I loved roller coasters as a kid. And I would do the same one like over and over and over. But I agree with you. And the thing is to you know, thinking about this as well is when you are finding a group of peers, when you're choosing to walk alongside people, when you're choosing to pull up a chair, and sit at the table with people that have done what you want to do. There's something magical that happens the same magic that you experience on a roller coaster. And it's like, it's just excitement that you get to share along with other people. While at the same time you're getting the pieces of the puzzle that lead you know that when that roller coaster goes down at the like at the bottom of that. There is like you know, maybe one of those like round like circles that are like, right, like, there is the moment where it's like, oh my god, I can't see what's coming. I don't know how its unfolding. I'm not sure how this is going to look. I don't know if it's going to work. But the people that I'm with the people that I'm learning from the strategies that I'm putting in place here to make sure as you're going down and you're feeling your stomach, like on your heart like stop for just that second. There's always that up again, right. Like there's always like the relief again. And I feel like that's the fun thing with partnerships. And that's the fun thing with getting support from mentors and coaches. Is that, honestly that right? starts to become just part of the journey. And rather than looking at it, as you know, it's up and down. It's like, that's the experience with choosing in entrepreneurship. And that's part of the fun about it. Because what you learn along the way, is so incredible, right? It's so incredible what you'll learn along the way, because you start to, to actually trust that just because you're on the down right now, just because you're like diving over the edge into the unknown, you're going to be okay. In fact, you're going to be better than okay, because often I find after that, the best should be the best things happen. And I just love that. So
Blair Kaplan-Venables:there's such thing as a good partner. And a bad partner. Oh, gosh. How many partner? And I've had both. And maybe I've been both, you know, I'm Teresa like for you. Welcome to the dating show. The business dating show, Tony Teresa, what qualities are you looking for in a business partner?
Theresa Lambert:What qualities do I look for in a business partner? You know, I don't think I consciously ever thought about this. But now that you're asking myself this question, you know, what I would say is somebody who's fun. Somebody who's not like, like, I'm, I'm naturally very on top of shit, like, I just can't help it. Like, I'm naturally very on top of shit. So while sometimes it's nice when other people on top of shit, I really bring that into the relationship. So I don't need the other person to have that. But what I need them to have is actually trust. And also just being like, yeah, you need me to do something, just fucking tell me what to do. And I'll do it. And there's no like, you know,
Blair Kaplan-Venables:she's describing our partnership,
Theresa Lambert:essentially, but but that's the thing. Like, I like there's pieces that that come very naturally to me. And I do them because to me, they make me feel supported. And I feel like that's why I'm, you know, like, we're about to have velocity, and it's happening on November 30. And fuck, come join us. It's an extra week. While you're listening to this, I'm actually lying. We'll be lying at the pool relaxing in Costa Rica. And I'm going for like the most ridiculous business retreat. So who the hell knows what is going to go down on November fatty of because I'm coming back from two weeks in an immersed, intense, like an epic, beautiful jungle environment. So I feel like my goddess and creative juices are going to come like back with me, from Costa Rica, and fully rejuvenated. But I love strategy and systems. I teach strategies and systems and structure and things. And the reason why is because they make me feel really supported. And so I love doing that. So I need a partner who loves the fact that I love doing it. And she lets me do it. And what I need for them is the trust and the just the openness to be like, hey, just, you know, tell me what you need me to take care off. And also, I know, on the other hand that if I need that in exchange, it's going to happen.
Blair Kaplan-Venables:Yes. So she just described me. And I love that's actually what I love about our partnership is like, we're both very creative, but she like and I'm organized. But Teresa is very organized. And she's staying on top of a lot of things. And I am so, so grateful for you, Teresa. And I think that's brilliant. And you know, for me, I love when Theresa is like, I want to I don't like to be told what to do. Like, if you tell me what to do, I will not do it. But I asked Teresa, like if I need to do something to tell me. She's one of the only people that can tell me what to do. And I willingly do it with excitement. But like I need that sometimes because you know, we both have these very fulfilling careers and lives, that, you know, an open communication is so important. So like for me and a partner, it's trust, I want them to trust me and me to trust them. And I have to be all in. If you want to partner with me because of my skills, and I'm not all in I'm going to fail you. I'm going to fail you and I get approached a lot where we should do this together to do that together. And if I don't feel pulled to it, if I don't feel passionate about that partnership, and my gut tells me not to do it and I do it. I'm not showing up authentically as me and I'm not going to do a good job. But there's been times where I'm like I'm going to do it because it could be cool but no it should be if it's not a fun Yes, it's a no.
Theresa Lambert:And that we share that attitude we share because I'm the same.
Blair Kaplan-Venables:day season, we're coming into:Theresa Lambert:Yeah. And, you know, I think the big thing here too, is we're inviting you to come collaborate with us. We're inviting you to take a leap of faith and trust your gut that if you're listening to this, if you've been listening to the last 48 episodes of dissecting success, that you want to come join us for velocity, and you will walk away with something and Blair and I the one thing again, something that we really share in this partnership. We love to have fun. Yeah, he loves to have fun. We're both like different, and we both have a weird streak.
Blair Kaplan-Venables:I have more of a weird streak than a non weird streak. But that's what makes me me, me, me, me. But like, one thing, though,
Theresa Lambert:is we're not You're not
Blair Kaplan-Venables:we're not cookie cutter. We're not your traditional business people. And you know what doing traditional business, the way things are in the corporate space doesn't work. That's why you're listening to this podcast. That's why you have your own business. We all started our businesses for a reason. You know, you know, I don't make the rules. I just break the rules. You can't tell me what to do. Because I'm gonna do something else. Like having a job doesn't work. For me working with clients on my own terms definitely does. And it's worked. It's worked and Teresa and I together we've had multiple five figure look, we had multiple five figure launch, we had multiple five had multiple five figure months, I had a five figure day, um, we teach you how to do this, we teach you how to do this, and we teach you because it's not conventional. You don't go to school and open a textbook and learn how to do this. No, you're coming to this school of Teresa and Blair, you're coming to the school of velocity.
Theresa Lambert:ed is an invitation to finish:Blair Kaplan-Venables:need the:Theresa Lambert:oh, to gain momentum in:Blair Kaplan-Venables:Finished:Unknown:The pinky in the
Blair Kaplan-Venables:brain actually my friend and I used to sing that. And she called me Blaine and we called ourselves pinky in the brain. And then my other friend like from childhood NARF Do you remember like nerf? Do you know what I'm talking about? Did you have that in Germany?
Theresa Lambert:nerf? No, no, no. Bang? Yes. No, but they always went nerf. Oh, I don't know. Maybe it translated to something different because
Blair Kaplan-Venables:what is an orphan German demo?
Theresa Lambert:I have no idea. That's so funny.
Blair Kaplan-Venables:Okay, so you know what? Come join us for velocity it's free. You know if you don't show up you don't show up. That's a you problem not at US problem.
