Who remembers writing book reports? Yah, we almost all do and you know what? I loved writing them because they help me pull together my lessons and thoughts on a particular book. Well, I just finished #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso, Founder of NastyGal, and I feel inspired.
#GIRLBOSS is story of how Sophia went from selling vintage clothing on eBay to running a MULTI (muli) million dollar empire. It’s a story of how she lived in the moment, did what she knew how to do and wasn’t scared to be different (whatever that means, nowadays). She would spend her time in thrift shops and yard/estate sales finding the best of the best clothing plus cleaning, stylizing, photographing and posting items to eBay. She did everything with care and treated her clients like friends. This, my friends, was the key to her success. SHE TREATED HER CLIENTS LIKE FRIENDS. How did she do this? She was on social media, responded to each and every comment and question and packaged each item to be shipped with care. She paid attention to detail. She paid attention to her clients.
Basically, her charismatic passion attracted her customers and her company kept on growing and growing. Now, she has her own website and sells brand names, her own clothing line and vintage clothing. She’s not your typical business lady and she was proud to let her freak flag fly. So, what are some of my takeaways or lessons, per say?
- Be yourself.
- Be friends with your clients.
- Be weird.
- Do what you love.
- No details are too small.
- Spend your money wisely.
- You are not above helping out because everyone wants to succeed
